Strategic Objectives

Phase 1 (2006 ~ 2010) Setting up infrastructure as an environmental capital
We will establish systems to secure basic infrastructure and systems, encourage citizens to participate in and make strategic investments. To that end, we will successfully host the Ramsar Convention, launch a pilot project on eco-rivers, improve the air quality and spread the environmental mindset of companies and the society as a whole.

Phase 2 (2011 ~ 2015) Becoming "Korea's environmental capital"
We will turn Changwon into an eco-city by intensely applying our local capacity in continuous investment so that it can be recognized as Korea's environmental capital.

Phase 3 (2016 ~ 2020) Securing prestige as "the world's environmental capital"
We will ensure Changwon leaps forward as a mature eco-city in all fields including the air, water, forests, energy, waste and urban space structures to secure its prestige as the world's environmental capital.

Action Plans
  • Changwon will become an environmental capital based on the harmonious common ground of citizens, environmental groups, the city council and administrative bodies.
  • First of all, we will benchmark environmentally advanced countries and set in place an environmental capital master plan befitting Changwon's features and conditions based on consensus of various kinds.
  • Moreover, we will establish institutional frameworks such as legislation of basic ordinances to set environmental standards and apply them to all administrative sectors, and actively carry out campaigns to encourage civic participation.
