  • Archaeologists found in this site a large shellmound of early Iron Age, a feature of fortress walls built during the Three Kingdoms Period and various prehistoric relics such as pottery, bone and horn objects, iron artifacts and stone tools that offer important clues concerning the life of early settlers in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. The discovery of a smelting yard, which is now protected by a structure built in 1975) at the site revealed that the early settlers were able to produce various iron products. The exhibition hall built in 1976 has since then become a learning center complete with relics excavated from the Seongsan Shellmound.
